Thai basil with larger leaves. Edible ornamental with showy flowers. Very uniform, upright habit. Flat, 2-3" long leaves that are larger than typical Thai types; purple stems and dark, purple-red flower bracts. Cinnamon/clove flavor with hints of anise. Slower growing and slow to bolt; needs a long, warm season for cut-flower use. Has demonstrated very good downy mildew tolerance in our field trials.

This variety comes from Naples and is highly prized for its strong flavor. Giant rumpled 6 in. leaves are great for pesto, though the thick leaves are harder to dry than most. Vigorous 3 ft. plants are pest-resistant and slow to flower.
